The Real History of Civil Rights
When the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which would end segregation nationwide, came to Congress for a vote, a number of Senators did, in fact, threaten to filibuster the bill as Harry Reid stated. What Harry Reid did not mention is that 80% of those Senators that threatened to filibuster the Civil Rights Act were Democrats. In fact, 31% of Democrats in Congress voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That means about 1/3 of the Democrat Party refused to end segregation nationwide.
How did the Republican Members of Congress vote concerning the Civil Rights Act of 1964? A total of 82% of the Republicans in Congress voted to end segregation nationwide. In other words, segregation ended when a larger percentage of Republicans voted in favor of civil rights.

The Reagan/Obama Debate
It’s easy to miss the old man.
The Obama Olympic Gambit
This was touched on in passing in the most recent Watchdog Bone for those of you who receive it, but I couldn’t help making an additional observation. The entire matter reflects on alarmingly poor judgment either by the President or his advisers or both for the following reasons. Given that the administration decided to do a full-court press and put it all on the line, including the administration’s prestige, to secure a winning bid for an Olympic event held in Chicago, you’d think the administration would have exercised more political acumen in assessing their probability of success. Had they done so, they might have divined that their efforts would have a high likelihood of failure. There is a high proportion of Europeans on the International Olympic Committee. Barack Obama is not as popular with western Europeans as he thinks he is. And his reputation is downright toxic with eastern Europeans, particularly the Poles, in the wake of his Chamberlain-esque decision to back away from missile defense deployments in eastern Europe. The latter leaves eastern Europe, historically sensitive to Russian aggression, feeling betrayed and less secure in the knowledge that they may not be able to count on a solid ally in the United States. It leaves one sleepless to consider what international situation of greater consequence awaits this administration’s miscalculation.
Why the Dems may implode in 2010: 4 scenarios
A Democratic meltdown next year? Washington is abuzz with speculation by prominent political handicappers such as Charlie Cook and Stuart Rothenberg. Republican hopes for a huge congressional comeback in the 2010 midterm elections rest on three pillars:

Climate Change: A team of international scientists has finally figured out why sunspots have a dramatic effect on the weather. It shows the folly of fearing the SUV while dismissing that thermonuclear furnace in the sky.
