Want to know which men and women voted to make homosexuality a protected class in North Carolina similar to race or religeon?
Thankfully, Granville County’s representative Jim Crawford did not vote for this ridiculous bill but senator Doug Berger, our 3-term, former teacher – now lawyer, did vote to introduce for the first time in NC legal history, homosexuality as a protected class.
Here are two policy views from local organizations.

If an act is entitled “SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION ACT”, shouldn’t there be consequences for committing an act of bullying in order to deter the behavior? Not according to this bill. It just writes “gender identity” and ” sexual orientation” right in there with equal status with “race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, socioeconomic status, academic status, physical appearance or mental, physical, developmental or sensory disability ….” The bill doesn’t even punish bullying which should be its purpose regardless of what the bully says.
Democrat Governor Perdue has said she will sign it.

One of these days, we’ll take back the legislature and repealing this and more should be the new majority’s uppermost priorities.
